Rainbow Springs

February 21, 2019

Rainbow Springs State Park is home to three facilities, including a day-use area with the headsprings and nature trails, a tube rental facility, and the campground. The campground has 60 sites for both RVers and tent campers. Rainbow Springs is Florida’s fourth largest freshwater spring and feeds the Rainbow River, popular for swimming, snorkeling, canoeing and kayaking.

First impression

-Campground property is much smaller than imagined it would be (only 60 sites)

-Very clean facilities, bath houses and General Store

-Great size lot, very level, fire ring and picnic table and some nice shading trees

Settled In

-Campground is really small, its true. I like venture around on my bike and its hard to do here unless you use the paved trail that carries people from the campground down to the tube rental facility.

-General store has lots of floor space but lacks a lot. It had basic needs but could have offered so much more

-Great place to launch kayaks right on the property

-The water is crystal clear and beautiful, even on overcast days

Lasting Impressions

-The restrooms and laundry facility were well taken care of. Overall the campground was very well maintained

-Playground area was lacking, very small and dated. It is in need of some upgrades.

-Location, Location, Location. Incredible views and access to the river and tubing facility. A great train to trails bike route close by, and the actual Rainbow Springs Park and headsprings close by.

-We will definitely come back in the summertime so that we can fully enjoy all the water activities without freezing like we did this December.

If you plan to stay at the campground we suggest bringing your bike, a kayak or canoe and some fishing poles. There are some great opportunities for all kinds of water activities and great bike trail riding on the Withlacoochee State system.
