(04-2019 Review) Compact Tent & Sleeping Mat for Bike Packing

June 4, 2016

This was my first purchase once I decided to go on a bike packing trip. The plan was to ride our bikes 35 miles to the campground and then tent camp for the evening and return the following day. Again, because of weight and space I was looking for  something big enough for 1-2 people but lightweight and able to store in a small space. After searching on Amazon I ended up purchasing this. It worked out great. It was plenty big for myself and my son and I was able to set it up in under 10 minutes. It packs nicely into my oversize pannier bag. I’ve added a couple of photos to help show scale both set up and when packed.

Here is the product description from Amazon:

  • Lightweight and easy set up with a carry bag, ideal for Backpacking Scout Outdoor Camping Hiking Fishing in fair weather
  • Open Dimensions: 83 x 55 x 43 inches,Pack Dimensions: 4.5 x 4.5x17inches
  • Rain Fly Vented Roof, Two Durable Glass-fiber Poles (6.9mm Dia.),4 Metal Stakes, 1 storage bag
  • Easy entry front door with two-way zippered mesh window, Large mesh side wall vents at top provide excellent ventilation and star gazing, and keep mosquitos and bugs out

I’m also adding a link to a sleeping mat that I purchased for our trip. The mat worked out well but it is a little noisy. I wrapped an extra shirt around the pillow and that helped with the noise and with the mat moving around. Three cool things about this mat is that is light and compact, blows up completely with 12-15 breaths, and has a built-in pillow.
